– Request moving leave

Two Months Before the Move
– Hire a moving company
– Organize moving boxes and packing materials
– Sell / give away items no longer needed
One Month Before the Move
– Prepare the apartment for handover / Carry out cosmetic repairs
– Clarify if renovations are necessary for the new apartment
– Measure which furniture needs to be disassembled
– Pack boxes or have the moving company pack them.
One Week Before the Move
– Paint the new and old apartment
– Disassemble and secure furniture; clarify if renovations are necessary for the new apartment
– Clear out cellar and storage rooms
– Secure parking spaces in front of the new apartment / Put up signs
– Notify banks and insurance companies of change of address
– Change direct debits; create a room plan / furniture layout plan for the new apartment
– Measure which furniture needs to be disassembled
– Apply for a no-parking zone.
On Moving Day
– Coordinate the move
– Provide refreshments for moving helpers
– Prepare furniture for the move
– Note down meter readings for water, gas, and electricity in the old and new apartment
– Walk through the apartment; re-register with all authorities / offices
– Empty mailbox and remove nameplate
